...guest artist for "Coppelia" will be John Gossett, right, who has
danced with the Chicago City Ballet, Dallas Ballet and Houston Ballet... |

 |
This ballet, with choreography by Shirley Scheer, artistic director,
is about Swanilda, betrothed to Frantz, who is also facinated by the
girl, Coppelia, who always sits on her balcony, book in hand. Swanilda
and her friends finding the lost keys of Dr. Coppelius, the eccentric
toymaker, set out to investigate the secrets of his workroom and to
meet Coppelia.
John Gossett, who has danced with the Dallas Ballet, Houston Ballet,
and Chicago City Ballet, will dance the role of Frantz... |

Leslie Shay of Washington and John Gossett have lead roles in Peoria
Civic Ballet's "Coppelia" Friday and Saturday ... Gossett has danced
with the Chicago, Houston and Dallas ballet companies... |

|
 |
...This "Coppelia" is extremely rich and detailed and is danced
splendidly by a largely young company. And its two major soloists,
John Gossett and Leslie Shay, manage to conjure up that necessary
stage magic so necessary to propel dancers, musicians or actors off
the stage, as it were, and into the heart.
Gossett is obviously seasoned, strong, energetic and superbly
controlled. His style is both athletic and nimble. He is graced with a
lightness, but is hardly a lightweight. His leaps are airy, prolonged,
his finesse dazzling and his lifts managed with almost lyrical ease... |
